Bobby East responds to Grammy Awards, attributing outcomes to African voters.

After the conclusion of the 66th Grammy Awards, where Zambian artists missed out on nominations, Bobby East, a prominent rapper and songwriter, shared his perspective on the outcome.

During the highly anticipated event hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, Bobby East’s emotional response grabbed attention. In a candid moment with his fans, he acknowledged the significance of voting in determining the results.

On February 5, 2024, Bobby East took to Twitter to express his sentiments, stating, “I don’t know who exactly ‘The academy’ is, but they need to get some African voters in that Afrobeats category real quick before they upset a lot of people. Otherwise, they will only vote for the version of our culture that suits their palate.” His message captured the mixed feelings surrounding the awards.

In defense of the Grammy Awards’ integrity, Recording Academy president Harvey Mason emphasized that winners are chosen solely by the voting body’s opinions, highlighting the importance of quality over commercial success in the decision-making process.
